Why Can’t Addicts Quit On Their Own?
It’s common that most addicts hardly ask for help because they are in denial. Other than that, their pride and ego stops them from waving the white flag and admitting to themselves that they have been defeated and need help. Quitting is not an easy fix and it requires a lot of effort and dedication. That is why most addicts will take a long while before they even decide to seek the necessary help.
Another reason is that some addicts are probably able to quit on their own and it is something you may never hear about. This is because some people may wake up one day and decide to quit and they encounter little or no problems when they are quitting. Once they have succeeded in quitting, they cannot call themselves addicts since addiction is defined as where a person is not able to quit easily without help. Now that they are able to quit without help, the addiction tag is shed altogether.
There are others in recovery who have tried to quit so many times on their own but each and every time they try, they fail. They desperately try all ways necessary to quit their addictions but they are not successful.
Once an addict has recovered and is free from his addiction, they usually have the motivation to relay their message to others who are having addiction problems. Passing on their messages to o0ther addicts lets the others out there know that there is hope for them and they should not give up. When the addict reaches out to others, the benefit acquired is that it strengthens their recovery. The addicts who share their messages have been empowered by seeking guidance from relevant groups, sponsorships and meetings.
