So what if I use Crack Cocaine?

Crack Cocaine is a problem that is the same in most cultures; it can be found very easily if you are looking for it. It is a cheap and instantly addictive drug and it affects every person that is around it. It became widely used in the Eighties and saw a decline by the Nineties due to police task forces and anti-drug campaigns. In the last decade the drug has made a comeback in the cities around the globe. Crack however, has always been strong in the inner cities. Crack is used usually by the people of poverty in the cities while Cocaine is known to be used by the upper middle class where the glamour and partying are. The punishment in the courts is much harder on Crack than they are on Cocaine, recent studies show that one to two million people regularly use crack and that Cocaine is a billion dollar business.

Cocaine is smuggled in by the Mexican and Columbian drug cartel by land, air, or sea. It is brought in the states by the ton and the affects that it has on the people that use this drug are alarming. Some of the side effects from Crack include; increased blood pressure and heart rate, increased breathing rate, vomiting and nausea, anxiety and hyperactivity, convulsions, lack of appetite, decrease in sleep, damage to the nasal cavity and lungs, and a high risk of heart attack. One other main concern would be that while smoking Crack so much chemicals are absorbed by the body at one time, the risk of overdosing is much higher. While the user is actively on the drug they have a lack of concentration which causes irritability and also causes hallucination, violent behavior and paranoid psychoses.

Crack Cocaine is one of the most addictive drugs and most people go threw withdrawals when they try to get off of it. The longer an individual is on the drug and the more frequently they use it, the symptoms are more prominent. An individual that is addicted to Crack can more times than not, get off the drug without professional help. Some of the side affects include; intense cravings, paranoia, hunger, and anxiety. These feelings are what normally keep them from wanting to stop. It is a continuous cycle for someone wanting to quit, they want to stop but they don’t want the pain that goes along with it. So to prevent the pain they continue with the drug.

Crack Treatment in Ontario for a patient is best done as an inpatient procedure where they have multidisciplinary staffing and drugs for the social status of the patient. Studies show that the number of emergency room visits from Crack withdrawals is on the incline and the number of rehab patients is higher than ever in the United States and Canada. For someone using, or someone that knows an active user, it isn’t just the health risks that should make you stop. There is a minimum jail sentence for anyone caught with Crack and prison is not a place you want to have withdrawal symptoms.
