Alcoholism and Child Abuse

When you think of a parent, you want to think of a person who wants to be there for their kids and who look out for their children’s well being. However, for some kids, that’s not he case. For many children out there, they are becoming the parent whether they want to be or not. What do you need to know about child abuse? More than a million children just this year will be a victim of alcohol abuse. This is something to start with, but it doesn’t end here.

Children and Roles

There are many children who at a young age learn that they have to take care of themselves. They get themselves ready for school. Often times, if there are siblings involved, they have to take care of them siblings. They also take care of the drunken parent after they have passed out. With this in mind, they find that in many cases, if it isn’t the older kids taking care of the family, they would all be in foster homes. This is what alcohol does to a person. It splits a family apart and it twists the roles of the family.

Manifestations of Child Abuse

Many just think about physical abuse when they think about kids who have drunk parents and what not. However, there is much more to it than just that. There are many who start out with verbal abuse. As a parent starts drinking, many times, the first form of abuse is verbal abuse where they tell the child they are stupid or so forth. Before that though, one might go through neglect as the parent denies taking care of the child or in many cases, the children. Then, it evolves into physical abuse which includes often times, sexual abuse. Talk to a judge or a social worker and they can tell you many horror stories of things that have happened when a parent got drunk.

Domestic Abuse and Child Abuse

In some cases, it’s not just child abuse that they are dealing with. It’s domestic abuse as well. However, in some cases, the parent who doesn’t get drunk might not want to get hit and allow the children to get hit instead. Everyone learns to just avoid the drunken one.

Child Abuse and Long Term Consequences

There are many people who find that in many cases, when a child is abused, there are many people who find that there are long term consequences. For instance, there are many who find that they make a trend of it and it continues on. When you have this, you will find that because that was how they were treated, they do this then to their children. Some result to alcohol as well. Others find that they have scarring and emotional pain that just won’t go away with time. This can be something that can have long term effects in itself as they find that they go about and sink into depression. They can have low self esteem as well. All of this can result from child abuse and the things that they have to deal with. The other thing that they find is that children are normally behind in school and in many cases, they are so busy playing adult, they miss out on their childhood. Many times they are malnourished and lacking some social concepts. The outcome is really bad, yet many have to go through this. get some help in a good alcohol treatment program in Ontario and give your child and yourself a decent life.
